The Textile writing project:

They came from the mountains and the out of the way places across the south. The poor, the wanting, the broke farmers, war veterans and the displaced families.  They changed their stars for the generations that followed.  These are the stories of the lint head factory workers.  Their fearless work paralleled the dominance of American industry, the changes in worker protection, baseball, world wars and finally world trade.  Their stories memorialize a time of struggle, joy, sadness and strength. 

In this writing project we search for the stories of the textile worker.  We wish to memorialize them for tomorrow’s generations.  We believe they offer unique and colorful reflections of a lost and important time.

We welcome your first-hand accounts.  How you pushed an iron wheeled cart through the concrete floored factory or ran spools of yarn from the storage rooms to the machines.  Carnivals, baseball games, larger than life people and tragedy are all a part of the tapestry of this project.  We want your stories!

Send your stories to us.  Include times, places, persons, and of course your reflections.  We will review them and follow up with you for clarifications and some specifics to help with the quality of the work.
